TOP 20 RANKINGS
We debut our 2013 SureWest Sports boy's basketball rankings with an obvious top six group of teams, and at the top of the list it should come as no surprise that the Sheldon Huskies sit in the No. 1 spot.
Sheldon is not only a three-time defending Division I Sac-Joaquin section champion and defending NorCal champion, but the team returns four of it's top five scorers led by San Diego State signees D'erryl Williams and Dakarai Allen.
If that wasn't enough, they also land a Franklin transfer Darin Johnson (University of Washington).
Sheldon (9-4) enters league play having been tested by some of the best teams in the country with it's challenging a national schedule, but if there is a team that could surprise the Huskies in league play it would be Pleasant Grove.
After Sheldon there is a clear upper tier of teams that includes Sacramento, Antelope, Pleasant Grove, Capital Christian, and Bella Vista.
From No. 7 Rocklin all the way down to No. 20 Casa Roble, arguments could be made for any of these teams to be shuffled around to any spot in the bottom 14 positions thanks to some impressive wins to go with some unimpressive losses.
With league play starting this week, look for teams to solidify their spots in the rankings with more consistent play.
In no particular order, the teams we have on the outside looking in that could make it into next week's rankings include Woodcreek, Davis, Cordova, Placer, Folsom, Yuba City, and Kennedy.
