A terrific playoff run came to an end on Thursday for the Valley Christian Academy (Roseville) girls volleyball team.
Entering postseason play as the No. 8 seed in the Division VI bracket, the Lions picked up 3-0 wins over No. 9 Stockton Christian and No. 1 New Life Christian (No. 1), before edging No. 2 seed Victory Christian in a five-set thriller.
But when Valley Christian met up with No. 3 seed Turlock Christian in the section championship at U.C. Davis on Thursday, they had no answers for junior Sarah Amaral and Turlock Christian prevailed, 3-1 (25-8, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20).
Amaral delivered one bit hit after the next for Turlock Christian, leading the way in kills with 15.
For for Eagles, it was their first D-VI section championship and their third overall in girls volleyball.
Valley Christian (17-6, 9-3) made it to the section championship in 2010, but lost to Woodland Christian, 3-1.
